Jimmy Lee Barnes, 71, died April 1, 2024, in Manhattan.

He was born March 19, 1953, in Clay Center to Dale Barnes and Georgia Knox.

He was raised in Clifton and graduated in 1971 from Clifton High School. He was a master welder and owned a plumbing business. Later he owned and operated Jim Barnes Trucking. He also drove trucks for Girton Propane and Farmer’s Oil.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Alan Barnes.

Survivors include daughter Julie and husband Marc Beswick of Abilene; son Nathan and wife Angela Barnes of Clyde; son Trevor Barnes of Eugene, Oregon; son Jason Barnes of Hays; daughter Chelsi and husband Matthew Stites of Clay Center; and daughter Kortni Barnes of Salina; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Dennis and wife Dixie Barnes of Clyde, Jeff Barnes and Rhonda Mayerhoff of Clifton, and Greg and wife Deneen Barnes of Clifton; sisters Janet and husband Kevin Schurle of Clay Center, Linda and husband Tony Tuberville of TX, Angie and husband William Cyphers of Clifton and LuAnn and husband Brian Johns of Minneapolis.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton with Fr. Steve Heina. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clifton.
