James Eugene Hogan, 68, of Greenleaf, died May 1, 2024, on the Hogan family farm in Kimeo.

He was born on Sept. 2, 1955, in Washington. He was the ninth child of Austin and Mary Louise (Hoover) Hogan.

He graduated from Linn High School where he drove a school bus during his senior year. He then attended the Beloit Vocational School, studying auto body mechanics, where he won an award for his work.

His career began driving the school bus for Linn and supporting the Hogan Family Christmas Tree Farm. He also did automotive restoration and paint and was skilled in a variety of machinery and manufacturing in diverse industries.

Survivors include his former wife Diann Elliott and stepchildren Tom Elliott (Lina) and daughter Kailin of Norfolk, Nebraska, Denise (Deist) Hertz and children Makenna, Aviana and Dax, Washington, Kansas and Amy Elliott and Elijah of Washington, Kansas, siblings Margaret (Edward) Boyd, Phoenix, Arizona, Lawrence (Sally) Hogan, Hendersonville, North Carolina, Virginia (Thomas) Sekinger, Annandale, Virginia, Robert (Pam) Hogan, Hendersonville, North Carolina and Harold (Ginger) Hogan, Topeka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Pat Klozenbucher, Mary Louise Milks and Ruth Marie Hogan and brothers-in-law Duane Klozenbucher and Bob Milks.

A memorial service was May 7 at Saint Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Kimeo. Father David Metz officiated.

A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
